A Case of Fibrosarcoma of the Larynx

Abstract
The laryngeal fibrosarcoma is one of the rare tumors occurring in the larynx with an incidence of less than 1 % of all malignant neoplasms of the larynx.
A Korean mar., 55 years of age, was seen at the otolaryngologic department of Presbyterian Hospital, Taegu, Korea, with the chief complaints of hoarseness and swallowing difficulty beginning 2 years previously. He had been breathing through the tracheotomy tube for one year because of dyspnea.
Several biopsies were interpreted as granulation tissue at the other hospitals as well as at our hospital, but the tumor removed at the time: total laryngectomy was diagnosed as a fibrosarcoma here.
It has been known that the laryngeal fibrosarcoma metastasizes at later stage of the disease than other laryngeal malignancies and it offers a favorable prognosis.
I would like to emphasize that it is difficult to establish a primary diagnosis of laryngeal fibrosarcoma by biopsy only as was shown in this case.
